~ Patti's Aspen Adventures ~
Oct 9 - Tuesday

As my friend Russell and I headed into Aspen we decided to try to find Woods Lake. I heard that John had said "People come to Aspen to get away. I go to Woods Lake to get away from Aspen."
We found Frying Pan Road, got passed the Ruedi Resiviour and found forest service road 400 also known as Eagle/Thomasville Road. There was a sign at the beginning of the forest service road that stated impassable when wet (actually it said impassa le when wet). As we found out, they meant it.
Oct 11 - Thursday

This morning was the work detail at the JD sanctuary. I participated last year and really enjoyed myself. I thought it was a great way to say thanks to John and honor his memory.

The guy in charge said he had 18
trees for us to plant, but he would understand if we couldn't get to them all. I told him we were JD fans and  that he under estimated our power, we would get them in. We ended up planting 28 trees that morning.

We ruled!!!!
Patti & Russell, in the JD Sanctuary
(who does HE remind you of?)
John had given one of his guitars to Malcolm McDonald (I think that's his name), he was John's personal assistant for years.

Well, apparently Malcolm got into some money problems and had to sell it. Two fellows Scott and Rory bought it.

They brought it with them wanting to "share it with the people". Scott would bring it to the nightly sing a longs for people to hold and look at. It had the scratches on the back where it would
rub against John's belt.

It was very cool.
There was one woman who got a hold of it and wrapped her arms around it and wouldn't let it go.  Scott had to just about wrestle with her to get it back.

I swear it wasn't me!!!  ;O)
For those that don't know, I wrote a song about John that came out of the experience I had in Aspen  the year before. Having never written a song before, I amazed myself.

I got the courage to ask Howard, the fellow in charge of the campfire if he would mind if I sang the song during the "opening ceremonies".

I sent him a copy of the lyrics and he loved it and said yes. Now I worried about a month about what I had gotten myself into.

I'm a beginner guitar player and don't have much of a voice and I have never performed for a group before.
