From Maureen ... I was waiting at the cash register in the shoe store Saturday
morning while a "Muzak" type of background music was playing, Beatles etc. when
"Leaving on a Jet Plane" played.  A young couple was also waiting to pay for shoes
for their baby.  The husband started singing the lyrics quietly to his wife and
kissed her right there in the store.  Way to to John!

From Patti ... I was on my last leg of my trip back home from a wonderful week in Montana.  Was anxious to get home but sad to leave the wild and wonderful west.
I had taken my seat on the plane when a gentleman sat next to me and asked if this
was 7A, I told him no that it was 8A but that I wouldn't bite if he chose to sit next to me.
He struck up a conversation asking where I was going where I was coming from.
When I told him I was coming from Montana, he bust out with "Wild Montana Skies"
by John Denver.  I laughed and said "Amen Brother." So of course we started talking
about John and how much we loved his music and missed him.  To show what a fan he
was he boasted of his JD 8 track tapes and player.  I was impressed, shows he is a long
time fan.  He's got a lot to learn about John but he has the heart and that's what counts.
So welcome James to our family!

From Lynn ... A few weeks ago a woman called me about a commission that I will
be serving on.  I have never met any of the other members and had not heard of her.
She asked, "Don't you like John Denver?"  She had remembered my name from a
newspaper article, "Googled" me, and found my name connected to the 1997 memorial
service held for John at Umstead Park.  It turned out that she is also a real fan and has
even been to Windstar.  I told her about the tribute concert coming up in Wilmington
and we talked for a while.  I look forward to meeting her in person later this month.
That call brightened my day!

From Lisa ... I went to Fayetteville with the youth group from my church,
St. Francis UMC in Cary. We were staying at the First Baptist Church in downtown
Fayetteville, in their gym. On saturday evening as the middle school aged kids were
getting settled for the evening, I borrowed a guitar from another adult leader. As I sat
on my cot, I started singing some of John's songs. One of the songs that I sang was
"Follow Me". As I sang the kids started to gather around me, enjoying my singing.
They were unusually quiet for 11, 12 and 13 year olds. When I finished the song, one
of the girls spoke up telling me that she really liked the song, and asked if I wrote it.
Excitedly I told her no, that it was written by my favorite singer, John Denver.
The look of surprise on their faces was to die for.
They decided, as I continued to sing some more of his songs, that
John Denver was a pretty FAR OUT Dude!!

Chuck M ... I went to the Dolly Parton concert in Spokane, WA on December 18.
She sang an energetic rendition of "Thank God, I'm A Country Girl" and
afterwards yelled out a "Thank God for John Denver!"

From Laura ... Last month my husband, Danny got new glasses.  The frames he
chose were from the John Lennon collection, however ... The sales lady who was
helping him with them kept refering to them as JOHN DENVER glasses.  :o)
Works for me!

From Patti ... I was channel surfing when I came upon a program, the
"myths of country music" and there was Johnny. The myth was that he was a
sharp shooter in the military and that Sunshine on My Shoulders was a song
about his gun ... I laughed!!!!  The truth, John's eye sight wasn't good enough for
him to follow in his fathers foot steps into the Airforce.
THANK GOD!!!!

From Pat L ...

I wanted to pass along THREE Denver Delights which happened quite recently.

My husband and I were in an antique store and I was finished looking
already and was standing by a revolving display case with jewelry in it.
As I waited, I was idly spinning the case around, only half looking at
the merchandise. Suddenly, something caught my eye and I stopped the
case and there, right in front of me was a medallion just like
John wore on the cover of "Whose Garden Was This."
"War is not healthy for children and other living things."
For only $5.00, I HAD to buy it!

Then, in the very next antique store, we barely walked in the door and
over the speakers, John started to sing "Leaving On a Jet Plane!"

The very next weekend, we went out to eat at a local restaurant we have
never been to before. They had all sorts of artwork on the walls which
was for sale. I looked up at the picture above our table and saw a
beautiful mountain scene, with a lone eagle flying over. The title?
Would you believe, "Rocky Mountain High?"

These little things just bring a smile to my face!

From Janice ...  in Old Navy and I heard a reggae version of "Take Me Home..."

From Lisa ...
We live near Jordan Lake, we can hear the boats on the water. As I was driving north
on 751, there is a section that has water on either side. I have always heard that there are
Bald Eagles that live around the lake and when ever I see a hawk, usually a red-tail,
I dream of that day when it will be a Bald Eagle. Saturday was that day, there he was
flying above the road!!  I have never seen one in the wild!!
I thought of you all, and mostly of John.

Here is another Denver Delight from me. I went for a bike ride this past Saturday and
saw my second Bald Eagle. The road that I took ends in the lake where it picks up on
the other side.  As I got to the end, I was looking at the trees and there he was!

I parked my bike, then sat and watched him for almost a half hour, singing John's songs.
It was so beautiful and peaceful.
