| Grandfather Mountain Somewhere rising up to the skies, Lies the image of a man's face, He's looking up to the heavans, This timeless wonder of grace. Bears have roamed these lofty ridges, Slept in caves through wintertime, They've feasted on mountain berries, Greeted visitors of all mankind. Graceful deer graze upon the hills, They drink from shimmering streams, While frisky otters play nearby, In nature's playground of dreams. Wounded eagles rest on cliff sides, No more to take to the skies, They've found a safe refuge and home, Far removed from dangers' eyes. Cougars sun sleepily on rocks, Entertaining guests by day, Restlessly wandering the night, Living life in peace and play. Somewhere a woodchuck emerges, Seeking to find signs of spring, While his playful friend, the chipmunk, Hides the treasures nature brings. A bridge links the mile-high summits, To view the wonderous and strange, Where even those who have crossed, Can never tear down or change. This age-old Grandfather of time, Overlooks the celebration, Of animals and ancient stones, Beauty beyond explanation. Written By: Debora Richey Copyright 1999 |
