| Denver Delights ... From time to time, little things happen that remind you of John. They always make you smile ... I like to call them 'Denver Delights' ================================================================= Thanks for sending me your 'Denver Delights' ... Keep them coming and look for them in future newsletters ... Laura ================================================================= On the 1st day of July, a few of us Friends of JD took a little trip to visit another Friend of JD, who can't attend any of our gatherings due to health reasons ... So, we decided to have our own little gathering at her house! The WHOLE TIME spent with her was a DENVER DELIGHT! Here's what she has to say about it ... Dear JD fans, I am one humble and grateful old lady today. July 1st, two John Denver fans, who believe in his philosophy of life, traveled 300 miles from Newport News, VA to play a private concert for me in my living room. I felt like a queen. Mark Williamson, a Real Estate Appraiser and Ed Stowers, a Military Analyst, read one of my emails to the John Denver Web Site, and asked if I would like to have them pay me a visit and sing for me. Of course my answer was "Yes"! They arrived here about 2PM and stayed until 8PM. Ed Stowers knealt down by my husband's chair and took his hand and thanked him for his 27 years spent in the Navy. It brought tears to George's eyes. He said that was the first time anyone had ever thanked him for his service. Also came Larua Bollinger and her husband Danny from North Carolina. They run an animal rescue for sick, injured or orphaned animals, birds and even snakes. Laura has the "Friends of John Denver" web page in North Carolina. She also plays guitar and sings beautifully. The rafters rang in the Bogle house with the lovely songs of my dear John Denver. A reporter, Jack Martin, came from our local paper. He admitted that he also was a John Denver fan. I am anxious to read what he writes in the paper. My nephew, Danny Bogle came and played with them. George's niece and her husband, Kate and Steve Gordon, came from Blacksburg. What does one think of people who will drive 5 hours for one old women? Personally, I think they are swell people and are the epitomy of "the John Denver Spirit" Janeth fixed a big pot of beef stew, a lot of finger food and a beautiful cake. They all seemed to enjoy it. Wish you all could have been here. We took some wonderful pictures, which I shall treasure always. I still look forward to another visit from these wonderful people in the future. Love and Peace, Parke Bogle |
| Hello NC Friends ... I seem to sing "Around and Around" a lot lately ... Time as I've known it, doesn't take much time to pass by me!!! I believe it's time to move on to another song! I'll try to avoid singing songs like "Druthers", "Day Dreams" and "Going Camping" and focus more on songs like "For You", "Friends with You" and "All of my Memories"! It will soon be time to head out to Colorado again! I've already purchased my airline tickets and the 'Tribute Concert' tickets go on sale this month ... So, the count down has begun! The Persides Meteor Showers are coming around again next month ... I'm considering camping at Hagan Stone Park, just south of Greensboro ... August 11th -13th. The 'highlight' of the meteors will fall on Friday and Saturday night this year! | Staying Centered with Tom Crum ... A few weeks ago I was playing golf with a friend and his 12- year-old son Luke. My friend was getting increasingly irritated and angry because Luke wasn't listening to any of his "advice," choosing instead to make his own, often misinformed, golfing decisions. At one point, however, Luke turned to his father to ask what club to use. His father's terse reply was, "Do it however you want. You seem to have all the answers." My friend's response had come out of his need to be right, to make his son "pay." But he knew his response wasn't a good one. A more centered response could have resulted from practicing the Three Deep Breaths, particularly the Discovery Breath that teaches us to "Breathe in the mystery, let go of judgment." I suggested that he focus on acknowledging Luke whenever he did something well, to "catch him doing something right." Next, I encouraged him to be more gracious and helpful whenever Luke did ask for suggestions. My friend got the message, and completely changed his approach. By the end of the round, the spirit of fun and rapport had grown, the acknowledgment flowed, and the questions came more and more frequently – not just from son to dad, but also from dad to son. It turned out to be a wonderfully fun day of golf for us all. ~~~ Tom Crum |
| ~ Thank You from the North Carolina Zoo ~ On behalf of the Education Division and the Conservation Captains, please accept our sincere thanks for your participation in Earth Day 2006. This marks the 11th year we have observed Earth Day with a park-wide celebration. Each participating organization offers visitors positive ideas toward a gentler footprint upon the Earth. Though the weather was rainy, we thank you for adapting and riding out the storm with us for the full day. Please pass this along to everyone participating, especially the musicians. Your future participation is welcome. Bob Langston, North Carolina Zoo |
