JD's Birthday & New Years Celebration ...

I want to thank all (Laura, Danny, Mark, Ed, Nancy, Doris, Charles, David, Debbie) who came to the New Year's Eve/John Denver Birthday Party at my house. We had a blast!!!!

Started out as a quiet evening with
Mark and Ed playing guitars together.  They live close
to each other and have been practicing and it shows!!!    They were wonderful.

Then my wild neighbors (Mike and Cynthia) came over.  I had invited them to our party.
They were having one of their own but all their guests partied to much during the day
watching the State game and couldn't make it to the New Year's Eve Party. So they told
us to come over to their house being they had all kinds of food and karaoke, plus the
guys could "plug in" their guitars and they had microphones for a real concert like deal.
Mike's brother/uncle came over with his guitar and jammed a little. David and Debbie
had to leave early to go to another party being the social butterflies they are.
I'm sure they would have had more fun if they stayed with us.

So, once all of our folks showed up that we were expecting, we hit the road. I had invited
one of my other neighbors over as well but they too were having a party and had invited
our gang to come over. So we went
caroling on New Years Eve!!!
Mark and Ed
led us on guitars of course and we sang about three songs
before heading over to Mike and Cynthia's.
That was a lot of fun.

(
If it wasn't so cold out I would have liked to hit a few more of the
neighbors home with some song and good cheer)

Once at
Mike and Cynthia's house, we sang and danced and laughed and
ate and drank till 2:30 in the morning.
It was a far out time.

Certainly a carnival like atmosphere had been established!!

Not wanting to over stay our welcome we staggered across the road and continued
with the music at my house until about 4 am.
Ed, Mark, Nancy, Laura and Danny
crashed at my place for the night and we had a nice breakfast in the morning before
everyone had to head home.

Sorry more of you couldn't make it, it truly was a great night.
(Danny might disagree but it wasn't because of the music or company, was it Danny?!)
Denver Delights ...

From time to time, little things happen that remind you of John.
They always make you smile ... I like to call them  'Denver Delights'

=================================================================
Thanks for sending me your 'Denver Delights' ... Keep them coming and look for them in future newsletters ... Laura
=================================================================

I have two "Denver Delights" to share; both involving the song
"Thank God I'm a Country Boy"

The first one actually goes back to this past summer, to a Lancaster
Barnstormers baseball game I had attended. I was so thrilled to hear
John singing "TGIACB" over the PA system. Then I heard it again.
And again. I thought,
"Wow! They must really like this song. Cool!"

About a week later, there was an article in the sports section of our
newspaper about one of the players on the team. The article stated that
Number 2, Travis Hake's
"theme song" was "TGIACB." The article said that
Travis doesn't "walk" towards the batter box but rather, he "strolls" there.
He always makes sure the moment lasts.
"I like to hear the song"
he said with a smile. " I like to take my time."

Go Travis!

The next "TGIACB" Denver Delight is actually from Ed Stowers,
whom some of you may know. His youngest son is now in the Air Force
and is stationed over in the Azores. Ed shared with me recently that his son,
Nick, has taken over the
country morning radio program on the base and
his lead-in theme each morning is
"TGIACB." (JD version, of course!)

Go Nick!

Neat how a simple little song pops up now and then.

Virtual Book Club ...                                                                             Here is a suggestion from Audrey, for a book club. Folks can recommend books to read
about the environment or something related to our "cause." Who ever wishes to participate
can read the book ... Then send your thoughts about the book to Laura to be included
on the
Virtual Book Club webpage ... where you can read each other's reviews.

We can plan time to discuss the books we read at our JD events
or maybe even host a book signing with the author ...

The first book is
David Brower's book "Let the Mountains Talk, Let the Rivers Run".
John wrote the song Healing Time for David and he uses the book's title in the song.

Staying Centered with Tom Crum ...

A Magical Start ... As I consider this new year, a host of images pass before my eyes.
A landscape silhouetted with freshly fallen snow, the first rays of sun as dawn breaks on the horizon, the blank pages of a new journal waiting to be filled - all symbols of a fresh start,
new beginnings.   But the image that keeps returning is the face of our youngest
Siberian Husky, Magic.

Every morning I begin my day with a walk to our kennel to care for our three dogs.
Without a doubt, before I draw near, I hear the bang of a door as
Magic senses my
approach.  She is just over two years old.  Our other Siberians were settling into
"adulthood" by two.  Not Magic.  She retains all the wonder and enthusiasm of a
wide-eyed puppy despite matching her mother in size. Whether rain, sun, snow or sleet,
she joyfully charges out to greet and run circles round me. She is ready to go, totally
present, willing to play, hopeful of a walk or some other exciting event.

She looks like she is smiling at me. I feel loved, appreciated, and accepted whatever
my mood.   Invariably, this
centers and energizes me. I return inside more relaxed,
aware, ready to face the day and glad that I have
Magic in my life.

If I could grant a wish for all of you for the new year, it would be for you to have
the
"Magic" in you - the energy and ability to be present every minute of 2006,
to
live in discovery and give those around you the gift of
compassion, appreciation, and acceptance.
