Denver Delights ...

           From time to time, little things happen that remind you of John.
          They always make you smile ... I like to call them  'Denver Delights'

=================================================================
Thanks for sending me your 'Denver Delights' ... Keep them coming and look for them in future newsletters ... Laura

From Beth ...
I began to think I was never going to have a Denver Delight,
but in the past 2 weeks,
I've had two! Both times involved
hearing
"Sunshine on My Shoulders" on the radio -
on two different stations .... Maybe the world is ready to
appreciate
John Denver again!

From Laura ...
I wake up to the sound of music ... and I hit the 'snooze alarm' as
soon as I can ...
However, recently I was awaken to John singing Country Roads! Started my day out with a Smile ... :o)
I have also heard John on a couple other occasions, recently ...
on a local country station ...
(and I rarely listen to the radio)

Virtual Book Club ...

The first book is David Brower's book ...
"Let the Mountains Talk, Let the Rivers Run"

I read the book and really enjoyed it.  It took some complicated
thoeries and explained them in easier to understand ways, and it
was funny. It motivated me and gave me hope, while at the same
time made sick at the way we have damaged and continue to go
about ruining the earth.  There were many parts that reminded me
of things John said in the Wildlife Concert interviews.  It was clear
that he had read and been influenced by this book and by
David Brower himself.

I think this is a great first book for our group.  Thanks for suggesting it.  If we truly want to continue John's work concerning the environment, this book is a great place to start.

~~~ Peace,   Audrey
John wrote the song Healing Time for David and he uses the book's title in the song.
We can plan time to discuss the books we read at our JD events
or maybe even host a book signing with the author ...
If anyone has any book suggestions let me know,
I'll keep a list of them for future readings.
     Pherhaps love is like a resting place,
                                           A shelter from the storm.
It exists to give you comfort ... It's there to keep you warm.
And in those times of trouble, when you are most alone ...
                  The memory of love will bring you home
Staying Centered with Tom Crum ...
Family Feud ...
“There is no way a woman could be President in 2008!” He said it so definitively,
my first impulse was
“he must be right.” He certainly got everyone’s attention.
And so began another heated debate during a recent vacation with family.
You know the kind of gathering – all those people with whom you are
comfortably dysfunctional.
Well, if a competent woman ran, I’d vote for her and so would the majority of the country,” came the rebuttal. Before long everyone had a strong opinion delivered as if sanctioned from a higher level of logic and law, digging themselves so dogmatically
deep a bunker-bomb couldn’t have blasted them out.
That night, we were all outside on the beach mesmerized by the
breathtaking canopy
of stars
in a sky that was foreign to us. “Which one is the North Star?” came the
innocent query. Another debate arose, but this time the responses were
open, thoughtful,
and far less rigid and certain.
As we all tried to recall our high school astronomy,
a collective attitude of discovery prevailed and the conversation felt far more pleasant
compared to the earlier one. It was foolish to be dogmatic in this debate;
Father Google would bring about the ultimate truth.
Why do we become more “right” - more arrogant even - when the answer is subjective?
Do we think that if we come across more definitively, we will prove that we are smarter
or more capable?
Is it our hidden desire to get approval or respect that way?
When we take a moment to get centered, we recognize that our
“certainty” actually moves
us further from the approval we desire. When we get in touch with our highest intent,
we realize that it’s not approval that we are truly searching for, but love.
When we
embrace the mystery of life, we understand that our need to make our opinion be
the “right” one actually brings us further from true understanding.
Three Deep Breaths can be a very useful skill for turning an “I’m Right!” argument into
a dialogue of discovery. Even in the heat of the battle we can create magical moments:
1. Breathe in calmness, get present, and really “be” with the other person.
2. Breathe in “the me I want to be.” Consider “what is my highest purpose in the conversation,  in this relationship?”
3. Breathe in the joy of discovery, let go of judgments. Consider “are my next words going to   come from an intent to defend or an intent to learn?”
What I Do to Help ...
I used to get a LOT of catalogs!!. Every single one has an on line store to shop at.
So, to save trees I have canceled delivery of all the catalogs that were coming to my house.
This saves trees and I don't have to worry about recycling them.    ~~~ Patti
Patti and I are making lots of plans for Earth Day ...
Mark and Ed will be there to provide some 'live' music for us.
A section of the "Peace Cloth" will be on display and
we will be
creating and adding a panel of our own.
So, make plans to be join us on April 22nd at the NC Zoo!
I have had several Denver Delights the past couple of months,
I will have to get them all written down ... and I'm sure there
will be more along the way ... like on Ebay ... there are over
4,200 John Denver Items!!!  That's a LOT!
