| Time as I've known it, doesn't take much time ... to pass by me! Boy isn't that the truth ... I can't believe it's almost the end of May! Even with the longer days, I never seem to have enough time ... this time of year. There's just soooo much to do. Our "Back in Flight" wildlife clinic is starting to get busy ... as of yesterday, we have 2 Thrashers, 2 Mocking Birds, 1 Cardinal and 1 Blue Bird. Ranging from pre-fledge to almost ready to fledge. And we've had several "quick visits" to the clinic ... the Barn Owl who was stuck in a chimney for 3 days, was released after a few days of "R&R&R" and that BEAUTIFUL baby hawk, who went to a larger teaching rehab clinic. |

| From Patti ... Below is an email I received that I want to share. Dave & I have sent $50.00 on behalf of the Foxfire Windstar Connection Group. So, If you make it out to Windstar later this year, be sure to look for our section of the garden!!! Peace, Patti Hi everyone... As you know, the Windstar Volunteer Work Weekend is just a few weeks away. This year, RMI and the Windstar Foundation have asked that one of the main projects for the weekend be replanting the gardens inside the green house. The green house is the outer portion of the farm house that is used by RMI as their reception area, and is currently being rebuilt by RMI. We are 'in charge' of the flower gardens and the rock garden inside. We would like to offer each and every Windstar Connection the opportunity to have a part in this project by sponsoring a section of the garden. For a donation of $50 or more, we will purchase and plant appropriate plants in a section of the green house garden, and we will put a personalized sign with your connections name on it to thank you for your contribution. Of course, we would love for everyone to be there in person - and for every connection to be represented. But, if you can not come out - or even if you can - we would LOVE it if you woudl sponsor a section of the garden. Thanks for your hard work for Windstar! | Here's what Audrey had to say about her ride home ... When I left you all at the restaurant after the zoo, the light outside was very strange. Moments later a huge rainbow appeared--an entire arc--which stood over all of Asheboro. It was the perfect finale to a wonderful day of John's music and the spirit that all of you embody. And incredibly the rainbow stayed in view almost all the way home. Peace, Audrey |
| There's a lot going on at work this time of year too ... Seems like I've always got some
kind of "home- work" to do for something that's going on at the office! :o) Throw in a couple of weddings, where I do the cake & photos ... and my summer is filling up pretty quick! Man, am I glad I'm already making plans to go to ASPEN!!! But, don't worry ... I will always have time for my JD friends ... about every 3-4 months I have to refuel myself with good friends, good food and GREAT music ... |

| From Laura ... Here's a 'Denver Delight' I found at the little Rutherfordton airport ... This was on a big rock at the entrance to the airport in Rutherford, NC ... |
| "Wanna get away?" We don't actually need an airline ticket as those effective commercials suggest. Maybe where we really want to go is not a place but a state of awareness. Could it be that we really want to get away from all the technology, the news, the over-flowing in-box, the stress and busy-ness of it all? Why wait for that planned vacation? Have a mini vacation today, everyday. Turn off the radio or TV, the endless media tsunami, for 30 minutes or an hour and really be present to life. When you have a meal, be mindful of each morsel. Attend to all the senses when you eat, rather than the "chew and do" style so typical of our hectic times. Enjoy the slow, silent, savoring of each bite, and any distasteful thoughts from your day will begin to dissolve as well. Go outside and indulge yourself in the bountiful scent of a blossoming spring, cleansing the stale odor of old patterned ways, allowing the freshness to reveal the possibility of a better, healthier world. Walk or sit along the banks of a river and let the sounds and flow of nature drown out the blare of technology. Take a jog in a park and let your own footsteps stamp out the nagging worries of finances or relationships. Let the run be not for a "timed" workout but an undefined, childlike excursion into the joy of movement and being. Or, simply sit on your front porch or on a park bench and be fascinated with whatever shows up. Let The Mystery of life fill your attention so completely that judgments have no room to enter. Wanna get away? How about today?! |

| From Gail ... I was talking to one of the art teachers at my school today - a really great guy. He went to the Olympics in Turin this year (his niece was on the women's luge team). He was talking about how the Olympic spirit is really evident when you are there in person you don't get that from watching the games on TV. He said there was a pizza place/bar across from where they were staying and they went there a lot at night. It was just what you see in the movies - people in groups singing their national songs and drinking beer. There was a group of big burly guys from Poland singing Polish songs and when they realized that Scott's group were Americans, they came over and started singing "Country Roads" to them in English, then everyone in the whole place started to sing no matter what nationality they were! Must have been great to hear. I am sure John was smiling somewhere!! |
| From Pat ... The Travel Channel has a show called "Flight Attendent School" and they start the show with a segment of "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Not John singing, unfortunately, but still way cool! |
