Denver Delights ...

From time to time, little things happen that remind you of John.
They always make you smile ... I like to call them  'Denver Delights'

Thanks for sending me your 'Denver Delights' ... Keep them coming and look for them in future newsletters ... Laura

From Janice:
in Old Navy and I heard a reggae version of "Take Me Home..."

From Lisa:
We live near Jordan Lake, we can hear the boats on the water. As I was driving north on 751, there is a section that has water on either side. I have always heard that there are
Bald Eagles that live around the lake and when ever I see a hawk, usually a red-tail, I dream of that day when it will be a Bald Eagle. Saturday was that day, there he was flying above the road!!
I have never seen one in the wild!!  I thought of you all, and mostly of
John.

This is another
Denver Delight from me. I went for a bike ride this past Saturday and saw my second Bald Eagle. The road that I took ends in the lake where it picks up on the other side.
As I got to the end, I was looking at the trees and there he was!

I parked my bike, then sat and watched him for almost a half hour, singing John's songs.
It was so beautiful and peaceful.

What I Do In Honor of John Denver

I really enjoyed reading what folks had to say to this, in the Rocky Mountain High Newsletter.
So, I'd like to ask all of you who belong to the
NC Friends of JD the same question.
What DO YOU do in honor of JOHN DENVER???

... Annual Spring Camp-out ...

~ April 22nd-24th ~

Ok ... I guess it was a bit risky to plan a camping trip in the mountains ... this early in Spring!  However, despite the cold weather, we really
DID have a GOOD time. Stony Fork is a GREAT campground.

Saturday, we hiked the mile long nature trail and enjoyed hanging
out at the camp.  We had a GREAT campfire ALL weekend ...
thanks to the weather!
Celebrate Earth Day... Everyday!
John Denver's Wildlife Concert
@ the NC Zoo

What a GREAT weekend.  As you know, mine started out on Friday ...
I spent most of the morning getting the last minute things done.
Got my car LOADED and headed over to Patti's.  I got there around 7pm.  Patti fixed a delicious dinner ... and believe it or not,
we didn't stay up all night with John.
(that would happen soon enough)

We arrived at the zoo around 8am, Janice was there to escort us
to the entrance way into the aviary, where we were to set up our display.  Wow, what an aviary!  I could have spent ALL day inside there with all those birds ... However, there was a lot to do.

We had until 9:30 to get our display set up before the doors opened.
Our biggest challenge was to hang the Peace Cloth from virtually nothing!  Patti managed to get a few eye screws into the wall and
luckily it was strong enough to hold up all day.

Along with the display board, we had Windstar, NC Friends and
Foxfire Connection brochures available along with plenty of
applications to join Windstar and our Foxfire Connection Group.
I believe we showed the Wildlife Concert 4 times.

Even with all the 'work' we did manage to explore the zoo a little.
Janice even arranged a private visit with two beautiful BABY tigers.  They are only staying at the zoo for a short time ... on their way to a permanent home.

After our day at the zoo, Janice, Nancy, Patti & I had dinner together
at an Italian restaurant ... then Nancy, Patti & I headed back to
Patti's place in Kernersville.  Where we DID stay up most of the night watching John ... thanks to the 6 hour VHS tape from Parke Bogle!  Thanks, Parke.

Sunday afternoon, several of us met at Hagan-Stone Park, where we planted yet another tree for John at our Memory Marker.  Let's hope
this one makes it ... We picked out a Flowering Cherry Tree ...
and we also planted some Columbine around the Marker.

Checkout the new pictures on the webpage ... Our Memory Tree.

It was REALLY fun meeting several more members of our group ...
We even met
Julien McCarthy at Hagan-Stone Park, who became
our newest member ... Welcome to the group, Julien.

When we awoke on Sunday
morning we were dusted in
SNOW!  It didn't take us
long to break camp and
head into town for a nice
HOT breakfast ... and
a WARM restaurant!
Our next camping trip is already being planned ...
mark your calendars for August 12th - 14th!
Tom Crum's Centering Hint

"No Hesitation"
“72 hours is a critical measuring stick for this kind of heart attack,” the doctor had said.

It had been 53 hours that my brother-in-law Ric had been unconscious. Luckily his son, Will, had given him CPR immediately.
No hesitation. The EMT guys had shown up
within 12 minutes.
No hesitation.

But it did not look good. There was no telling if he would make it and what kind of
damage had been done. I called John, Ric’s best friend from high school 35 plus years
ago who was now living in Colorado. Ric was living in Philly, and John had probably
seen him only once in the past twenty years.

“Well, Tom, thanks. I’m going to go.”

That statement, in its clarity and finality, amazed me. Again.
No hesitation.

The first flight out the next morning, John was on his way – over two thousand miles
to see an old friend in need. Give up his work, suspend his busy life, spend a bunch
of money and go.
No hesitation.  And what could he do for Ric?
Wasn’t the hospital doing all it could?

But, you see, John knew the power of thoughts and prayers and attention from loved ones. He knew of miracles. He had been a miracle survivor of major cancer.
Yes, he believed in miracles and the power of prayer.

While John was in flight, Ric woke up.

There is no better time than now to heal relationships.
To simply reach over and gently touch.
To say I’m sorry, please forgive me, I forgive you.
I love you.

It takes courage and clarity of purpose. But no hesitation.
