Spring is a live in the Carolinas ... Ah, yes, Spring is alive.
It's my favorite time of the year ... with all the critters and flowers,
my camera is never out of reach!  I hope everyone enjoyed the baby humming bird pictures I sent out.  He is so amazing!

On Mother's Day, Danny was visited by one of his 'babies' ... a blue jay who was probably
released last year.
(I think we released 9 or 10 of them) I said he came back to see his 'momma'!
He will still fly down to Danny's hand for a peanut ... or for a taste of a frozen treat!
Although we're 'closed' ... I'll keep you all posted of interesting critters that comes along.

So since, our last couple of campouts haven't been very successful ...

We're planning another one!

Denver Delights ...

From time to time, little things happen that remind you of John.
They always make you smile ... I like to call them  'Denver Delights'

=================================================================
Thanks for sending me your 'Denver Delights' ... Keep them coming and look for them in future newsletters ... Laura

From Jenny:
The kids got out of school for the summer on Wed. May 25th.  On Monday,
I went to pick up Will about an hour early and the school was letting the kids
have a "fun day."  They were all outside and there was a magician, ice cream,
face painting and.......
karaoke.  Just as Will was coming to the car, a little girl
got up to the microphone and started singing
Country Roads!
Then I noticed as Will was walking to the car, he was singing along.
I just love it when I hear John's music being passed on to younger generations!
Far Out!!!!

From Laura:

I've had quite a few Denver Delights this past month :o)  While out shopping, I heard
Back Home Again over the store's PA.  And when I got back into my car,
Back Home Again was on again ... Oh, that was my CD!

Last month I went camping with a bunch of folks from work ... that's where I found out
Liz & George were JD fans ... she told me "we listened to John on the way up here!" :o)
We had a great time ... singing
John's songs at the campfire.

When I arrived at one nursing facility, the
soft instrumental back ground music was John's!

I went downtown Hendersonville to a music shop to buy guitar strings ... they were
playing
John's music ... bluegrass style ... in the store and on the street!  :o)

There were a couple more ... I'll save them for future newsletters!

What I Do In Honor of John Denver

Tom Crum's Centering Hint

The 'Magic' of Golf
by Thomas Crum

People often tell me, “I'm surprised you play golf. It seems incongruous with your
life-long study of meditation and stress reduction.” Well, I often ask myself the same
question after a particularly frustrating four hours of hitting, following, losing and
finding again a little white ball, before finally tapping it into each of the eighteen
little holes scattered over several hundred acres of converted cow pasture.

“But you see,” I answer, “golf can be an ideal mind/body art for today’s crazy,
stressed out world.” In Maintown, USA, you can’t just drive over to the local
Zen Archery Center and become so involved in concentration and focus that your
crazy world stops spinning. But, you can accomplish the same result in most towns
by walking a golf course.

If approached correctly, golf can be a modern ‘walk about’ taking you into your
own ‘dream-time’ state, where it’s all about the walk and the awareness.  Golf is an
art of being in the moment. Time stops.  The present shot is all there is.

But, of course, this is not how most play the game. We fret about our score.
We worry about embarrassing ourselves with silly shots. We are in constant judgment.
Sounds like daily life, doesn't it?

This is where golf can become a Master Teacher. The rules of the game are clear,
but the purpose of the game is always our choice. We can choose golf as just
another form of ‘beat myself up’ or we can choose to see it as a nice long walk,
a mind/body awareness opportunity.

Rather than getting ‘hooked’ by the needless attachment to performing well,
our purpose can be to breathe and to witness.  To notice the myriad of emotions
that can appear from one shot to another. To examine the way we judge ourselves
and others.  And all the while, breath by breath, we can choose to play an
ego-less learning game - learning the art of Awareness or the
art of Companionship, or the art of the Walk.

Tee one of those Games up, and golf takes on a whole new Possibility.

Our Connection to Windstar
Our territory includes South Carolina, North Carolina and Virgina.

I want to thank Bob Langston who was in charge of the Earth Day festivities at the NC Zoo and our very own Janice Coakley who also works at the zoo, for allowing us to set up a
display for
Foxfire, NC Friends of John Denver, and Windstar. We handed out information
on all three groups and actually had one person,
Doris Lambert, fill out a Windstar application and write out a check to become our newest Foxfire member. Welcome Doris.

I hope we can make
Earth Day at the Zoo an annual event. An idea for next year is to
be set up outside and have some of our more talented members
playing John's music live
to draw more attention to our booth. If you have never been to the NC Zoo,
it is really a great place. It is one of the better zoo I have been too.

As Laura mentioned in the last newsletter, we got to go behind the scenes at the zoo and
meet
Kaela and Rajah the two tigers cubs found roaming in Rowan county. Being tigers
don't fit into the North American and African exhibits, the zoo couldn't keep them.
They have been moved to a newly constructed 1/2 acre habitat at the
Carnivore Preservation Trust in Pittsboro, NC.
You can visit them on line at
www.cptigers.org.

It was so
FAR OUT interacting with these amazing creatures. They were like extremely
over sized kittens. It was easy to forget that they could kill you. We could have stayed there
all day watching them play and petting them. If you turned your back on the cage they
would stalk you and "attack"! It was awesome to watch.
Thank you Janice for a wonderful experience.

Are you just a fan of John's music or do you believe in saving
our environment and are you willing to do something about it?
