| Foxfire A Windstar Connection -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Laura and I had another wonderful adventure at the Aspen in October John Denver Memorial event. The aspen trees this year were the best I've seen them. I think we took pictures of everyone of them we came across. For me, it has become a "family" reunion along with the celebration of John, his music and works. A lot of the same people come each year but even first timers feel the connection. So you can start planning early, next years tribute concerts will be Oct 7,8 &9. Events usually start the Thursday before with the work day in the John Denver Sanctuary and ending with the campfire at Maroon Bells the night of the 12th. We had two campfires at the 2004 celebration. The first one was at Windstar the night after the open house and the traditional one the night of the 12th at Marron Bells. The plan is suppose to be the same for 2005. There is no better way to listen to John music than around a campfire in the beautiful Rockies with friends!!! Windstar also had it's first Symposium since John's death. I've heard it was a great success. You can view the symposium if you have high speed access. There is a direct link on the Windstar website to "Kidzonline" which has the video of the symposium. I do believe Windstar has the video for sale as well. The 2005 symposium is scheduled for September 30 - October 1. Dr. Jane Goodall has signed on as one of the guest speakers so it is already shaping up to be an awesome symposium. If you can manage an extended vacation, plan for the symposium and stay for the Aspen in October John Denver Memorial Celebration. What a Rocky Mountain High that will be. Please become a Windstar member to help carry on John's work and join the Foxfire connection group (no extra cost) and help us carry on John's work locally. Go to the Windstar website www.wstar.org and get an application. Even if you are unable to join, it doesn't mean you can't help with projects or organize your own. The improtant thing is to "do what you can do and I'll do what I can do and together we can make a difference" and save our environment, our planet, our very lives. |

| Denver Delights ... From time to time, little things happen that remind you of John. They always make you smile ... I like to call them 'Denver Delights' ================================================================= Thanks for sending me your 'Denver Delights' ... Keep them coming and look for them in future newsletters ... Laura ================================================================= From Lynn ... A few weeks ago a woman called me about a commission that I will be serving on. I have never met any of the other members and had not heard of her. She asked, "Don't you like John Denver?" She had remembered my name from a newspaper article, "Googled" me, and found my name connected to the 1997 memorial service held for John at Umstead Park. It turned out that she is also a real fan and has even been to Windstar. I told her about the tribute concert coming up in Wilmington and we talked for a while. I look forward to meeting her in person later this month. That call brightened my day! From Lisa ... I went to Fayetteville with the youth group from my church, St. Francis UMC in Cary. We were staying at the First Baptist Church in downtown Fayetteville, in their gym. On saturday evening as the middle school aged kids were getting settled for the evening, I borrowed a guitar from another adult leader. As I sat on my cot, I started singing some of John's songs. One of the songs that I sang was "Follow Me". As I sang the kids started to gather around me, enjoying my singing. They were unusually quiet for 11,12 and 13 year olds. When I finished the song, one of the girls spoke up telling me that she really liked the song, and asked if I wrote it. Excitedly I told her no, that it was written by my favorite singer, John Denver. The look of surprise on their faces was to die for. They decided, as I continued to sing some more of his songs, that John Denver was a pretty FAR OUT Dude!! Chuck Munson ... I went to the Dolly Parton concert in Spokane, WA on December 18. She sang an energetic rendition of "Thank God, I'm A Country Girl" and afterwards yelled out a "Thank God for John Denver!" |

| Special Events ... With Spring just around the corner, it's time to start planning some JD events! I hope to plan at least 3 or 4 JD getaways this year ... Starting with Earth Day weekend, April 22 - 24. I can't think of a better way to spend Earth Day than with my JD buddies. Virtual Wildlife Concert ... At the moment, we are working on a couple ideas for Earth Day. First of all, thanks to everyone who responded to my 'one question' ... Most responses (in NC) came from the central part of NC and Charles came up with an idea to have the Virtual Wildlife Concert at the North Carolina Zoo, in Asheboro. What a GREAT idea ... So, I've asked a couple folks to check out that possibility. :o) We should know in a week or two if we'll be able to pull this off by Earth Day. (if not, we're gonna do it a little later) If we decide to go for it ... we're going to need lots of help! If you can help us with this, PLEASE let me or Patti know. Spring Camping Trip ... As a back up plan on Earth Day ... I have talked with Pat, of the PA Friends of JD group about another joint camping trip. I've found an interesting campground in the Jefferson National Forest, not too far from Pulaski, Va. This campground isn't as 'comercial' as the one we stayed at last year and there's a lot more hiking in the area. :o) Either way, start making plans to be with us on EARTH DAY! |
